The prophet Amos ministered during a zenith of prosperity (and moral corruption) in the kingdom of Israel. Although religion was burgeoning and finances were booming, there was great moral and spiritual decay within the nation.

Amos’ message of coming judgment was out of step with a society that felt completely secure and comfortable — in short, a people “that
are at ease in Zion” (6:1).
